EG London Development Summit: Altman updates on Olympic Park

Andrew Altman, chief executive of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, said it was “too early” to say what impact public sector spending cuts would have on the Olympics developments but said the “momentum” was already with the project.

Speaking at the Estates Gazette London Development Summit at the King’s Fund, Cavendish Square in the West End, Altman said: “It is too early to talk about the impact of public sector spending cuts. But our cycle at the OPLC – when we will seek partners at the park – is 2013. We are all hopeful that the market will be in a different place by then.” 

Altman add that the OPLC would shortly be unveiling exciting plans for the park via its Olympic Park legacy framework.

He said: “People say how do we measure legacy? But there has to be a perspective on scale. This will be a major catalyst for regeneration in east London.” 

Altman added that there were ongoing discussions with City Hall focusing on how proposals to create an Olympic Park Development Corporation controlled by the mayor would impact the OPLC.

“There are a lot of questions around what land is included and how it is set up and we are discussing them now.”
